It was an honor to have met Jack, even though it was just briefly. I enjoyed talking to him and listening to his stories whenever he called. He was a true gentleman and will be missed.

Jack was one of the Coast Guard exchange pilots with us in the 37th ARRS, DaNang and 40th ARRS, NKP in 1972-73. Jack and I made at least one rescue together and he was my pilot that day at about 14,000 feet over southern Laos when the entire flight control system on our HH-53C, Jolly Green helicopter intermittently failed. When everyone was telling us to jump I remember jack saying, "No. I got this.". I didn't have the heart to tell him when those control were frozen only God had us. The system finally quit trying to kill us and we made it back to NKP. Jack was a hell of a stick and a great guy.

Rest in peace Brother.
Nickel.
