Jack Weeks ObituaryJack D. Weeks passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on August 15, 2025.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate Jack's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2025, at Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel in
Watertown, SD.
Pallbearers will be Jason Weeks, grandson; Jesse Weeks, grandson; Michael Evans, grandson; Justin Scheff, grandson; Ed Evans, son-in-law; and Connor McGuire, great-grandson.
Jack was born on April 3, 1931, in
Watertown, South Dakota, to William C. and Ethel (Lohr) Weeks. He married Katherine Strutz, and together they raised six children. Jack worked in maintenance for Bartron Clinic and Gottschalk Real Estate before establishing his own business, Weeks Tree Service. He believed in sealing a deal with a firm handshake. Jack was known for his booming laugh and the glint of mischief in his eyes.
Never one to sit still, Jack loved working with his hands and fixing anything that needed repair. He enjoyed coffee with friends, telling and listening to jokes, and spending time outdoors. Gardening in the same space his mother once tended brought him great joy. Jack had a knack for finding value in discarded items and was known as a collector. If anyone needed a tool or a part, they knew Jack was the one to ask.
For many years, Jack shared companionship with Mary Stoner until her passing. She kept him grounded and helped him remain connected with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to him.
Those grateful to have shared Jack's life include his children: Carolyn (Ron) Scheff of Big Stone City, SD; Robert Weeks (Jody Keeler) of
Watertown, SD; Thomas (Julie) Weeks of
Watertown, SD; Kay (Ed) Evans of
Watertown, SD; Debra (Neil) Anderson of Waubay, SD; and Jackie (Tony) Lenards of
Watertown, SD; as well as Mary Stoner's children; Danielle (Curt) Scott, and Jessica Varga; 15 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and his sister-in-law, Shirley Weeks of Fargo, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ernest, Herb, and Glen Weeks; five sisters, Mary Weeks, Stella Suman, Shirley Krull, Evelyn Wakefield, and Gladys Reeve; and his companion, Mary Stoner.
Jack seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew Jack. He was a friend to all, always ready to sit down for a visit, share a story, and enjoy a good laugh with anyone who crossed his path.
