Jackie Collins, 74, of Clarksville, TN, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2025. He was a graduate of the Historic Burt High School, class of 1969.
Born and raised in Clarksville, Jackie wore many hats over the course of his life- mechanic, insurance salesman, computer expert, and a successful business owner for over 10 years where he programmed and repaired computers.
Jackie was a known and respected historian and beloved member of his community. He was dedicated and worked tirelessly to document the legacy of Black Clarksvillians which led him to the placement of several historical markers throughout the city, ensuring that future generations will know the great impact and history of those who came before them.
Jackie was deeply committed to his family. He dug deep into his family’s history and took great joy in bringing them together whether through family reunions, stories, or research into their shared past.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Virgie Collins, father, Arthur (Sonny) Jackson, grandmother, Matilda Brown Mabry, sisters, Dorothy Brown Ogburn, Clara Marie Jackson, Kimberly Jackson, brother, Tracey Jackson, and great grandson, Jayden Avery Wayne Holden.
He is survived by his son, Avery (Colin) Townsend, brothers, Dorris Collins, Donald (Cynthia) Collins, Maurice Collins, James Jackson, David Jackson, sisters, Delores Collins, Sharon Jackson, Sue Jackson, and Areatha Jackson, a loving and devoted friend, Sundae Woodson Collins, 4 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends.
Jackie leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, pride, and purpose and he will be greatly missed.
