Shared many a cockpit with JD on the DC 10 to Hawaii. His 37 foot Stevens was found on one of our layovers.
It always amazed me how dead steady flying and clocks made him.Never heard him play the violin but always wanted to.

I had the pleasure of flying with Jack several times when we were still Western Airlines. One month we had a series of layovers in Vancouver, BC. Each time we entered Vancouver one of the customs agents would ask us a series of questions including , "Did you bring any gifts?" The second or third layover we had there that month Jack looked at me as we stood in line for customs and said, "Watch this." Then we moved forward when our turn to be questioned came and the usual question about bringing gifts was posed. Jack, in his serious western cowboy way looked the customs agent in the eye and dryly replied, "I brought a gift for everyone." The agent was taken aback, didn't know what to say and finally replied, "Come on through." And that was Jack's easy-going manner to a T. It was always a positive experience when I had the privilege of flying with him.
