Jackson A. "Jack" White

Jackson A. (Jack) White, 92, passed away in Fayetteville on November 13, 2025. He was born in Leander, Louisiana, on December 1, 1932, to Eugenia Self and Andrew Jackson White. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 19, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church, 4201 N. Shiloh Dr., Fayetteville, AR. A private burial under the direction of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home will be held prior to the service in Fayetteville National Cemetery.

He was married to Mary Jane Young in 1969. They lived most of their married life in Fayetteville.

He was predeceased by his parents and his wife. He is survived by five sons: Alan White of Lafayette, LA; Roger White (Patricia) of Louisville, CO; John White (Sonia) of Newton, MA; Chris Thorn (Kim) of Rogers, AR; and Larry White (Regina) of Denver, CO. He is also survived by six grandchildren: Cassie White, Tiffany Thorn Martin, Amanda Briggs, Lilith White, Blake Thorn, and London Thorn. He had five great-grandchildren.

Jack graduated from Oak Hill High School. He received a B.S. degree in accounting from Northwestern Louisiana State University, and an M.B.A. and Ph.D. degree in accounting from Louisiana State University. He spent 40 years teaching accounting and serving in administrative positions, primarily at the University of Arkansas, (both at the Fayetteville and Little Rock campuses). Other teaching assignments were at universities in Louisiana and Illinois. He served as chairman of the Department of Accounting at the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville for 10 years. Jack represented the University of Arkansas in the Federation of Schools of Accountancy, where he served as member of the Board of Directors from 1992-96 and as president in 1995. He also was a member of the American Accounting Association for 35 years, serving as president of the Southwest Region in 1992.

Jack was a certified public accountant and a certified internal auditor. He taught professional staff training programs in a number of states and served as discussion leader for numerous continuing professional education programs in Arkansas, Iowa, and Tennessee. He also worked as a faculty resident for Arthur Andersen, LLP.

He was a member of the Arkansas State Board of Public Accountancy from 1998-2003 serving as secretary, treasurer and president. He also served as chair of the Education, Rules, Legislation and Curriculum Committees. Jack proctored the CPA Exam for more than 25 years. He was a member of the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy for 5 years and served on the Education and Continuing Professional Committees.

Jack became a member of the Arkansas Society of Certified Public Accountants in 1970. His service included chairman of numerous committees, president of the Northwest Chapter, and president of the ASCPA in 1988-89. He was also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants for 35 years. In addition he was a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors for 22 years. He has served as president of the Central Arkansas Chapter in 1982-83, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Arkansas Chapter and the North Arkansas Chapter.

He published a number of articles in the Journal of Accountancy, The Practical Accountant, and the National Public Accountant. In addition, he presented numerous papers at meetings of professional groups.

Among the honors he received were Outstanding Service Awards from the University of Arkansas and from the College of Business, Lifetime Achievement in Accounting Education Award from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and several academic awards from the National Council of Beta Alpha Psi from 1972-98.

He was a member of the Audit Committee and External Audit Selection Committee for the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas. He also served the Washington County Chapter of American Red Cross as auditor and finance committee chair and treasurer.

Jack joined Christ Church in May of 2024 and was a former member of Central United Methodist Church where he served as a member of the administrative board, ushers committee, Sunday school secretary, the finance committee, and internal auditor. He was a member of the Asbury Sunday school class.
