Jacob Samarin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Peters Funeral Home - Shafter on Jun. 11, 2025.
Jacob Samarin – May 6, 1976 – May 28, 2025
Jacob Samarin was born in Bakersfield on May 6, 1976, and passed away on May 28, 2025, at the age of 49. He is survived by his father, Harry Samarin; his mother, Sally Samarin; his stepmother, Rhonda Samarin; his stepbrother, Kevin Tallon, and wife Gina; his stepsister, Karrie Gallemore, and husband Kyle; nieces Kaylee, Brooke, and Abby Tallon, as well as Guinn and Olivia Gallemore; and his fiancée, Kaitlin Nickolls. He was preceded in death by his sister, Katie Samarin.
Jacob grew up in Wasco, where he attended local schools and graduated with the Class of 1994. From a young age, he had many hobbies, but none captured his passion quite like music. He began as a hip-hop DJ and eventually became known as DJ Odeed. Over time, he became a beloved electronic and dance music producer and DJ, building a devoted following and performing across the country at clubs, festivals, and underground events. Known for his powerful sets and distinctive sound, Jacob helped shape the West Coast electronic music scene during its formative years. He was as committed to the craft as he was to the community-supporting fellow artists, producing countless original tracks, and mentoring up-and-coming DJs. Many of his tracks remain popular on platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, and Beatport.
For the past 25 years, Jacob worked alongside his father on their farm north of Wasco. He developed a deep knowledge of agriculture and had a particular interest in the complexities of water policy. Whether working in the fields or engaging in conversation, Jacob brought insight, dedication, and thoughtfulness to everything he did.
Jacob was also a skilled BBQ enthusiast-never one to do anything halfway. Over the past decade, he mastered the art of smoking and barbecuing, often serving up meals at holidays and family gatherings. His signature seasoning blend, "Big Jake's Dang Ol' Rub," was a favorite among friends and relatives alike.
In recent years, Jacob returned to a childhood hobby: collecting baseball cards. True to form, he immersed himself fully, learning the details of card values, grading, and the inner workings of the industry.
Kaitlin was the love of Jacob's life. Their relationship was full of joy, laughter, and deep companionship. They shared a passion for travel-especially to the coast-exploring new restaurants, cooking meals together at home, and taking trips to the farm. Whether on the road or in their kitchen, they found comfort and happiness simply being together.
Jacob will be remembered for his quick wit, kind heart, and the laughter he brought to every conversation. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
