Rev. Jacob "Jack" Van Heest

July 25, 1922 - October 01, 2013 Rev. Jacob Van Heest, age 91, of Holland, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 01, 2013 at Resthaven Care Center. He was born July 25, 1922 in Grand Rapids to William and Marie (Doornbus) Van Heest. Following graduation from South High, he completed studies at Calvin College and Western Theological Seminary. He married Josephine DeJongh, who preceded him in death in 2005. During his years as a full-time pastor, Jack ministered to five congregations: Alsip Reformed in Alsip, IL (founding pastor); Home Acres Reformed in Grand Rapids, MI; Second Reformed in Fulton, IL; Fellowship Reformed in Hudsonville, MI (founding pastor); and Overisel Reformed in Overisel, MI. Jack's life was characterized by a profound love for God and for people. His compassion touched the lives of many and continued as a resident at Resthaven Care Center. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine; brother, Bill; sister, Joanne; and son-in-law, Ralph Santefort. Surviving are his children, David and Doug Abell, Holland, Sharon Santefort, Dolton, IL, Marianne and Joel Bouwens, Holland, Nancy and Michael VandenBerg, Indianapolis, IL, Dr. Jaci Van Heest, Enfield, CT; 7 Grandchildren; 9 Great Grandchildren; sisters, Beatrice and Dr. Arthur Van Eck, Fife Lake, MI, Helene Noordyk, Spring Lake, MI; brother, Marvin Van Heest, Walled Lake, MI; in-laws, Jay and Joanne DeJongh, Dorr, MI; Sadie and Dale Riders, Grand Rapids, Ruth and Roger Bremer, Hudsonville, Neal and Linda DeJongh, Clarksville, MI; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00am Friday, October 4, at Fellowship Reformed Church, 6610 36th. Ave, Hudsonville, MI 49426 with Rev. Michael Van Buren officiating. Visitation will be 1-3 and 6-8pm Thursday, October 3, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S State St., Zeeland; and also from 10:00-11:00am Friday at the church. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Reformed Church and Resthaven Care Center.
