Jacob Vorous Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 14, 2024.
Jacob Beverly Vorous, of Leesburg, Virginia, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at the age of 99.

Jacob was born September 1, 1925, in Winchester, Virginia and spent his youth in Millwood, Virginia. Upon his graduation from Boyce Agricultural High School he joined the Army to serve in World War II. After the end of the war he returned home to marry his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Jean. Their marriage lasted seventy-six years until Jean's death in 2023.

Jacob worked for the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles in Winchester and Leesburg and gave driver licenses to many locals, including Patsy Cline. In 1959 he moved his family to Leesburg, Virginia, and worked as an investigator for the Virginia State Corporation Commission's Enforcement Division.

He served as a member and subsequent chairman of the Loudoun County School Board in the 1970's and worked hard to make a difference in the local school system. He served as a lay preacher for the Leesburg United Methodist Church and conducted church services whenever and wherever asked. In the late 1970's he moved to Richmond, Virginia, to become the Director of the Enforcement Division of the State Corporation Commission.

Jacob lived his life focused on caring for others. He had a deep love for his family and he had many loyal friends. He and Jean spent their retirement in Leesburg actively supporting their daughters with their growing families. They also enjoyed cruising, refinishing antiques, and exercising at Ida Lee Recreation Center.

Jacob is survived by his three daughters, Patricia Chamblin (Jim), Linda Sedighzadeh, and Debbie Buttery (Frank); seven grandchildren, Christopher Chamblin, Laura Chamblin, Shahnaz Morton (Brett), Ali Sedighzadeh, Matthew Buttery (Amanda), and Katherine Lewis (Ryan), and 12 great grandchildren. Jacob was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, and by his grandson Bijan Sedighzadeh.

Services will be held Friday, October 25, at 1 p.m. at Leesburg United Methodist Church, 107 West Market Street, Leesburg, Va. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Leesburg immediately following the service, followed by a reception at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to The Alzheimer's Association or the Leesburg United Methodist Church.

I am saddened to hear of JB´s passing, but rejoice in knowing that he is with his Lord and savior as well as his beloved wife and reunited with family and friends that went before him in Heaven.
JB and Jean were such a blessing in my life. I will treasure my memories of meeting them at Ida Lee gym, many lunches at Lightfoot and visits to their lovely home. Most of all, it was JB´s love, optimism, humor and love of life that always lifted my spirits. His kind words were always full of wisdom and such an encouragement as I learned of his many life experiences and love for Jean & his family. I will miss them very much, and consider their friendship one of my most treasured blessings.
Sincerely, Laura Mazer and Joel Mazer

As a child growing up in Millwood, when Tig came home, it was always a big deal. He was a hero. Kind, personable, generous, friendly. He was my Mom, Dorothy´s, first cousin from just the road. They always had a close bond. She loved him like a brother. When he would come visit when we lived in Woodbridge, driving his Virginia State Highway Patrol car, all the neighborhood kids gathered to see what was up but it was only a visit from our dear friend. What a kind, sweet, gentle, intelligent, friend he was. We will miss you, Tig. Say hello to Jean. Love you always. See you soon.

Grandaddy coming to Colorado with granny to drive me across the US and spend the whole summer with me. He helped me memorized the book of Ruth, took me to wolf trap, Hershey park, swimming and so much more.
