My husband Peter and I (Joanne) moved to Dale Hollow Lake across the street from Jackie and Bob. I met Jackie when I was outside my new home taking pictures of the most beautiful sunset I had ever seen..."Did you get anything good?" were her first greetings to me. My first impression of Jackie was that she was so warm and friendly. Jackie told me a bit about the area and the boats they had that they enjoyed restoring.
Jackie warned me (lol) that her kids and grandkids would be coming down and there could be alot of noise going on. She hoped that it wouldn't disturb us, Absolutely not! I told her ! Family is the most important thing in this world ! I had to remind her when the family was visiting subsequently that it brought us such joy to hear the kids having so much fun. Obviously Jackie was so proud of her family and enjoyed them so very much.
I stopped by after she had been rushed to the hospital and was now back with family all around. She told me about the cancer. I was shocked of course yet she inspired me with her courage, faith and smile, seeing how the news affected me, she encouraged me that it will be alright.
What a woman! The next time I saw her, she and Bob came over to visit. She had lost so much weight....I held my breath....she smiled and hugged me and said " do I look different?" She had the biggest sweet grin. How brave, what courage she exuded. I don't think I ever experienced such a positive attitude.
While my husband has so many disabilities and we don't know how long he will be here....I will never forget Jackies attitude about her own struggle. Her boldness, bravery, kindness...and that comforting smile she had, inspired me more than I can explain. It was a gift she gave to me.
I want to continue on with the strength, courage and love that she exemplified.
I believe God sent her to me for such a time as this. Such a precious Gift !
I know I will see you again Jackie, at the banquet prepared for us all. And I know she'll be sharing all the goings on with her family down here,
She loved and continues to love you all !
God bless you all who love her and may the Holy Spirit be with you all to comfort you....praying for all of you, Joanne and Peter Burger
