We celebrate the life and mourn the passing of Jacqueline Helen Moisan, also known as Jackie, beloved sister, aunt, great-aunt, and great-great aunt. Born October 16, 1929 in Pennsylvania, she passed away on January 12, 2025 in
Oceanside, CA, after ninety-five years of tending to her extended family, acting as the family historian, and serving her country as a photographer in the Women's Army Corps (WAC). We will all remember her for her wit, attention to family events/birthdays, and the loving attention she gave to her nieces, great-nieces and nephews, and their children.
A resident of Oceanside for the last 60 years, Jackie was born in Wyoming, Pennsylvania, the daughter of John Patrick McGarvey and Helen Magdelen Hurley. She graduated from West Pittston High School in 1947 and went to work for Bell Telephone Company, where she was honored by co-workers before leaving the corporate world to make her own path as a photographer in the Women's Army Corps (WAC), where she served for three years. While a member of the elite Army photography school, she met her husband, David Moisan, and after a three-week whirlwind romance, the two were married right before Jackie was transferred to Germany for a year-long assignment in 1956. Jackie eventually left the Army but stayed in service of her country for 30 years, retiring from Federal service as assistant chief of staff for logistics for the Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, one of the largest Marine bases in the country.
Jackie filled her retirement years with regular exercise, reading, and keeping the family calendar. For 35 years at 7 am every weekday morning, including on the Friday before her passing, she drove to the Jr Seau Club 55 Fitness Center to take part in her exercise program. An avid reader with an extensive depth and understanding, she read incessantly, both novels, newspapers and magazines but was famous for cutting out pertinent newspaper articles that she gave as inspiration to her family members. Her favorite pastime was keeping track of birthdays, weddings and anniversaries-making sure to send cards or place a phone call and reminding others of special family milestones. And Jackie enjoyed travel, too, especially a trip with her sister Jean and nieces to Ireland, where she traced her parents' roots.
Jackie will be missed by her family and friends and is predeceased by husband David Moisan, sister Jean Price, brother Robert Emmett Hooper and niece Laura Weber, to whom Jackie provided special support, counsel, and understanding. She is survived by nieces Karen Price, Roberta Runco, and Cheryl Grzebin, nephews John, Stuart, and Robert Price, and many great-nieces and nephews as well as great-great nieces and nephews.
A memorial service and interment will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., at the Mission San Luis Rey, Glass Cemetery Chapel.
"May the Irish hills caress you. May her lakes and rivers bless you. May the luck of the Irish enfold you. May the blessings of Saint Patrick behold you."
