Jacqueline Sangster Obituary

Jacqueline Phillips Sangster, 94, died peacefully at home on Christmas Day, 2024. There are some who bring a light so great to the world, that even after they have gone, their light remains. And so, it is with Jackie. She continues to inspire by donating her body to the College of Medicine at the University of Iowa. Jackie was born on August 22, 1930, the daughter of Charles and Prudence Phillips. She lived many of her early years in Colorado, leading to her lifetime love of the mountains. Jackie moved to Iowa City to attend the University of Iowa, where she met her future husband, the love of her life, Jim Sangster. She always said wherever Jim was she was home. Jackie's purpose on this earth was not the many things she did, the committees she was on, or her list of accomplishments. Rather it was how she gave of herself, spreading joy wherever she went. Jackie had the ability to look at each day as a gift, living life to the fullest, and treasuring each day given to her. Jackie was human sunshine with a smile that lit up a room. She had the ability to make each person feel special, finding common ground with anyone she met. She was an unselfish giver of all things good; a friend to many, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Jackie was a teacher of life and prided herself on learning each and every day. Jackie's acknowledgement of the privilege of life: loving parents, treasured sisters, beloved children, adored grands and greats. She lived to serve, to love, to teach, to learn; a blessed destiny fulfilled. A life so beautifully lived, a heart so deeply loved, leaving us with a trail of memories. Jackie is survived by her children, Patty and Ken Grabinski, Jim and Renee' Sangster, Bob and Rhonda Sangster; grandchildren, Zach and Brandy Grabinski, Whitney and Scott Johnson, Stephanie Grabinski and Joe Graf, Ryan Sangster, and Lindsay and Chad Gates; and ten great-grandchildren, who adored her. Per Jackie's request no services are planned. The family asks that any donations be directed to the City High Stronger Together Nutrition Fund. These funds are used to enhance wellness for students with food insecurity or who lack access to adequate nutrition.
