Jacqueline Thurman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Georgia Cremation - Duluth on Dec. 10, 2025.
Jacqueline "Jackie" Noel Harmon Thurman, 86, of Dunwoody, Georgia, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, at her beloved home of 54 years with her children by her side.

Born on August 7, 1939, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, Jackie was a true "Georgia Peach". She was a 1957 graduate of Sylvan High School, and while at Sylvan, she made lifelong friendships, was part of many clubs and organizations, and was a majorette. Earlier in life, she participated in competitive roller skating. She was Grand Worthy Advisor of the Georgia Chapter of the "Rainbow Girls" organization in 1959. Upon High School graduation, Jackie worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation and was chosen to ceremoniously drive her Ford Thunderbird coupe to be the first car to drive down the newly constructed 75/85 Downtown connector. In 1961, she married Brown Thurman, and they shared over 64 years of life and love together. Jackie chose to stay at home and raise their two children in a home filled with much love and special traditions. She had a passion for travel, and she and Brown traveled the world, going as far as China, Turkey, Morocco, and throughout Europe many times. Her favorite spot was Paris and the surrounding regions, having traveled there over 8 times. She loved interior design and filled her home with lovely objects and art from her extensive travels. Jackie adored fashion and dressed exquisitely – always finding the most beautiful and unique clothing, shoes, and bags – usually with a touch of teal, her signature color.

After a courageous year-long battle with cancer, Jackie entered her final rest with grace and peace. Even in her last days, her heart remained fixed on the people she loved. On her final outing, one she insisted on making, she went to her beloved Perimeter Mall to buy gifts for her three great-grandchildren. That moment captured the true essence of who she was, always thinking of her family above all else and finding joy in choosing something special for those she loved. Jackie will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family and for the strength, grace, beauty, and wisdom with which she moved through this world. In her presence, even the most ordinary day was made brighter.

Jackie was the beloved wife of Charles Brownfield Thurman – cherished mother of Laurel (Jim) Petty, Lance (Tracy) Thurman – treasured grandmother, known as Marmee, to Noelle (Ike) Powell, Cole Petty, Alex Thurman and Blaine Thurman – and adoring great-grandmother to Harmon, James and Goldie Powell – each of whom brought a special joy to her life. Her legacy lives on in those who love her, each of whom carries a piece of her in their heart.
