Jacquelyn "Jacque" Jean Bassett, 87, of Ogallala, passed away on December 4, 2024, at the Indian Hills Manor in Ogallala.
Jacque was born August 6, 1937, in Ogallala, Nebraska, to Elmer J. and Clara (Guenther) Mecke. She graduated from Ogallala High School with the class of 1955. Following her education, Jacque taught grade school at Rapid City before eventually teaching the fifth grade at Brule Nebraska.
On September 20, 1958, Jacque married Darrell "Buck" Bassett at St. Luke's Catholic Church Ogallala. Their union was blessed with five children: Matt, Jane, Marty, John, and Teresa. In 1977, Jacque opened a preschool next door to her home, which she ran for the next quarter century. Her vocation as a preschool teacher touched many lives, which was something she was always proud to have been a part of.
Jacque was a longtime member of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala, where she and Buck were mainstays. She fostered a longtime devotion to the rosary, which deepened her prayer life over the years. Jacque was also a longtime member of the fireman's auxiliary.
Jacque was preceded in death by her husband, Buck, in August of 2024; 2 sisters, Mary (Bill) Doty and Marlene "Emmie" (Fred) Petersen.
Survivors include her children, Matt (Mary Jo) Bassett of Omaha, Jane (Ray) Diaz of Ogallala, Marty (Jackie) Bassett of Mesa, AZ; John (Janice) Bassett of Gastonia, NC; Teresa (Brian) Bradney of North Platte; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; 4 step-great-grandchildren; along with many other relatives and friends.
A memorial has been established in Jacque's memory for later designation. Condolences may be shared to Prairie Hills Funeral Home, where the Mass will be streamed live.
Funeral mass will be on Monday, December 9, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Ogallala, with Fr. Suresh Bandha celebrating. Internment will be in the Ogallala cemetery.
Visitation will be on Sunday, December 8, 2024, from 1 PM until 4 PM at the Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala. Rosary and Wake Service will be on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at St. Luke's Catholic Church.
Prairie Hills Funeral Home of Ogallala is in charge of arrangements.
