Jacqelyn Sunday Cullison
November 3, 1946 – October 25, 2024
It's with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Jackie Cullison. She had
fought a long and hard battle against a rare cancer, that finally took its toll on her fragile little body on October 25, 2024. She was born on November 3, 1946, to Harriette Medeiros, who then later married Alfred Mederios and had two children. She was the older of the three children and lived during a time before the Polio vaccine had been approved safe for use. Sadly, this vaccine was approved one year after she had contracted the devastating disease. She was only 6 years old when she became ill with the polio virus. She spent all of her childhood and the majority of her youth years in hospitals fighting to survive this horrible disease.
The story of our mother is uplifting, inspirational, sad, honorable, painful, and overall, one of the
most amazing stories someone could tell you about. Our mom, at only 6 years old was a true fighter back then, even at that young age she was an inspiration to others. That fight, determination, positivity and commitment she was born with continued on, throughout her years. She had overcome more obstacles in her lifetime than any of her doctors would have ever deemed possible from back in the dark days for polio victims. Though surgery after surgery, iron lung time, full body casts, and much more, she still found a smile and the grace to visit with her other hospital polio survivors, to give them the hope and encouragement to survive the hardships of their disease. While trying to inspire others to fight and stay possible, she herself worked hard to overcome the damage that polio had done to her tiny body. In time, she learned to walk, became independent, as well as finding love and getting married to Ronald Cullison. Together they had 5 beautiful daughters, and she became the proud grandma to 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.
Her inspiration to be the strongest woman she could be, just demonstrates the willingness to
overcome her disabilities in ways that only she could. She was our rock of a mom and an icon to her grandchildren. She was loved by all that ever met her, and she was just as giving with her love back as she knew no strangers. She was proud of all her girls who were blessed to be able to take care of her in her last minutes, hours, days and weeks of her life. She didn't want any of us to dote over her as she hated to feel the loss of her independence, but for us we were blessed and grateful to be able to care for her as she once had for all of us. Her smile, laughter, bratty little attitude, kindness, support, generosity, and pure love for her family will be missed by everyone. Her journey here on Earth may be over, but we all know that she's giving someone up in Heaven her "Little Attitude" like only she could. She is now looking down on us all and saying to her littles, "Mine Tastes Better Than Yours". You GO mommy and find Elvis and do a dance like none other. Hold Uncle Freddy's hand and run like the wind till your legs hurt. Heaven received our angle and while they get to rejoice, we all will miss you here every day. They say it's not really goodbye, but it's just for now till we meet again mommy.
