Jake Jacobs

Robert John Charles Jacobs, 6/19/44-7/23/24, had a lot of names. In Baltimore, he was Johnny, then Jake the Snake. Died in hospice care in Tucson, home since 2014, of dementia complications, wife Elinor J. "Ellie'' Brecher and dog Newman beside him. Parents David and Ilona Jacobs and sister Ruth Masters predeceased. Brother Stephen Jacobs, daughter Tami Jacobs, grandson Ezra Jacobs, niece Rabbi Marci Jacobs and nephew Daniel Jacobs, all of Baltimore, and son David Jacobs, of Florida, survive. Joined the U. S. Navy at 17, serving on the Constellation, Forrestal, and Franklin D. Roosevelt with Attack Squadron 85. Discovered his inner cowboy. Started dressing Western. Joined Baltimore Iron Workers Local 16. Honed machinist/maintenance mechanic skills in Israel. Served honorably in the IDF. Back home, worked for Becton Dickinson and the U. MD Pharmaceutical Sciences department. Traveled for Danskin. Managed Nashville's at the Hyatt country-Western nightclub. Moved to Fort Lauderdale. Met Ellie, a Miami Herald reporter, on J-date in 2002. Married in 2017. Donated his body to the Southwest Institute for Bio-Advancement. Memorial donations to Friends of Pima County Animal Care Center: www.friendsofpacc.org. Alternately, eat blueberries, drink a Coors, root for the Ravens, dance a two-step, listen to Conway Twitty's The Rose, and/or vote Democratic in his memory.
