It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father James "Jim" Charles Amereihn, who left this world peacefully in the evening hours of Monday, March 3, 2025, at the age of 89.
Jim was born on November 16, 1935, in Baltimore, Maryland, where he spent most of his childhood and was a graduate of Calvert Hall College High School before moving to York, Pennsylvania. After many years, he settled into retirement in Bel Air, Maryland.
He is a proud veteran of the United States Navy, where he served his country as a MA-3, embodying dedication and strength throughout his life. Dedicated to upholding the values he held dear, his years in the Navy instilled in him a deep sense of duty, discipline, and resilience – qualities that remained with him throughout his life.
A man of great character and loyalty, Jim was a devoted basketball and baseball coach and a passionate Baltimore Ravens fan. He never missed a Ravens game on TV or a chance to talk football, especially when it came to his beloved team. His love for the game extended beyond the sidelines, inspiring young players and engaging fellow fans in spirited discussions about plays, statistics, and Super Bowl dreams.
Jim was preceded in death by his two beloved wives, Lois Amereihn and Teresa "Carmel" Amereihn, each of whom played a significant and unique role in his life. His first marriage to Lois was filled with love, partnership, and the joy of growing a family together. After her passing, he was blessed to find love again with Carmel, with whom he shared many years of companionship and devotion.
He is also preceded in death by his siblings Joseph Amereihn and William "Bill" Amereihn and survived by his siblings Charles "Bunky" Amereihn and Mary Margaret "Peggy" Behrendt, as well as his three daughters: Susan Dema and her husband Edward of New Oxford, PA; Karen Radziewicz and her husband Robert of Felton, PA; and Barbara Rufo and her husband Rick of Seven Valleys, PA, and his beloved six grandchildren: Edward Dema III, Krysten Dema, Tyler Radziewicz, Taylor Radziewicz, Brianna Rufo, and Stephen Rufo.
Jim will be remembered for his strength, kindness, and the wisdom he shared with us. Whether through his stories, his guidance, or his quiet support, he touched the lives of many and left an unforgettable mark on those who knew him. All will forever cherish his memory and the positive influence he had in our lives. While our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing that his love will remain with us always.
A celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at St. Ignatius Hickory, 533 E Jarrettsville Road,
Forest Hill, MD 21050, where he will receive military honors to recognize his service to our nation. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the
American Diabetes Association, honoring his legacy of generosity and service.
