J. Emerson Angier, age 97, of Cokato, formerly Litchfield, died on Saturday, March 5, 2011, at the Cokato Manor. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2011, at the Cokato Manor Chapel with Pastor Allen Jones officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 9, 2011, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home and Thursday, March 10th from noon until 1:00 PM at the Cokato Manor chapel. Interment will be in the Lake Ripley Cemetery in Litchfield. James Emerson Angier, the son of Elbert and Sadie (Bell) Angier, was born on May 28, 1913, in Litchfield. His family moved to St. Paul where he attended school and graduated from the John A. Johnson High School. He returned to Litchfield and worked for a short time delivering oil. As a young man, Emerson was the Choir Director at the Litchfield United Methodist Church where he met his future wife, Luella Hutchins. They were married on August 25, 1940. Emerson worked at the Askeroth Paint and Wallpaper store for 25 years and then for Rick's Plumbing and Heating for 17 years before retiring in 1978. He was active in Church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and sang for many occasions in the church. He enjoyed music and singing. He also enjoyed maintaining a rather large vegetable and flower garden, reading and walking to and from work. In 2006, he moved to the Cokato Manor where he was well cared for, for the remainder of his life. Emerson is survived by his children Lynn (and John) Yen of Hastings, MN, Jennifer (and Bill) Francois of Houston, Texas, Kevin (and Lois) Angier of Litchfield, MN and Michele (and Todd) Thompson of Minot, North Dakota; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren, and a sister Anna Mae Foote of St. Paul. He is preceded in death by his parents Elbert and Sadie; wife Luella; a brother Mortimer Angier and sister LaVonne Fitch.
