JAMES J. APPLEGATE, JR., 63, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025, at Monmouth Medical Center-Southern Campus, Lakewood Twp., NJ. He was born in Lakewood Twp., and resided in Jackson Twp., NJ, prior to settling in Whiting 20 years ago.
James was the owner and operator of J.A. Repairs, Whiting for 25 years.
He was a communicant of St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church (The Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe), Lakewood Twp. James was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved building and flying model airplanes.
He was predeceased by his father, James Applegate Sr. James is survived by his mother, Leona Applegate; his sons, Justin Applegate and his wife, Chelsea, Scott Applegate and his wife, Holly and Matthew Applegate and his wife, Kayla; his daughter, Harla Mellen and her husband, Dustin; his grandchildren, Austin Mellen, Addison Applegate, Bentley Applegate and Dallas Applegate; his sister, Kathleen Rynczak, and Donna Applegate.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his visitation from 4-8 PM on
Friday, November 14, 2025, at the GEORGE S. HASSLER FUNERAL HOME, 980 Bennetts Mills Rd., Jackson, NJ. A funeral gathering will be offered at 9:15 AM on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the funeral home. His Funeral Liturgy will follow at 10:30 AM, at St. Mary of the Lake Roman Catholic Church (The Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe), 43 Madison Ave., Lakewood, NJ. Interment will follow in St. Mary of the Lake Cemetery, 1 Honey Locust Dr., Lakewood, NJ. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in James' memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105, www.stjude.org/donate, and would be greatly appreciated.
