James Benson Obituary

James "Bob" Robert Benson, 66, of Brunswick, MD, passed away on February 21, 2026, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

Born on November 16, 1959, to the late Ronald Gene Benson Sr. and Margaret Mae Benson, Bob lived a life defined by kindness, humor, and deep devotion to his family. Known for his mechanical expertise, quick wit, generous heart, and unwavering dedication to those he loved, he worked as a master automotive technician for more than 40 years.

Bob had an infectious love for life. Whether he was fishing, kayaking, watching sunsets with his beloved wife Terri, or more recently hunting, he was always seeking ways to create lasting memories. He especially cherished family vacations and delighted in seeing the wonder on the faces of his grandchildren. On weekends, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, attending car shows, playing poker, taking his "girls" shopping, traveling to his granddaughter's cheerleading competitions, playing slot machines, golfing with his son, visiting his grandson on Sundays, tackling home improvement projects, and spending time with his dog, Cooper, and his granddogs, Maci and Wilbur. The phrase "jack of all trades" truly described Bob.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Terri; his children, Joshua Robert Benson and wife Nancy of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, and Kimberly Nicole Miller and husband Kyle of Jefferson, Maryland; his two cherished grandchildren, Jax Robert Benson and Kynlee Grace Miller; his brothers, Ronald Gene Benson Jr. and William Kevin Benson; his brother-in-law, Frank Lewis Strakonsky and wife Beth; his aunt, Etta Christopher and husband Jack; and his uncle, James "Jimmy" Carey. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loved ones who will forever cherish his memory. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and numerous other family members.

He also leaves behind close family members Angela and Paul Armstrong, bonus son Matthew Moulton, and dear friends who were like family: Charles "Chuck" Crummitt, Jeffrey Crummitt, and Dave Smith.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at 401 Central Avenue, Brunswick, MD 21716.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the friends and local organizations who supported Bob throughout his lengthy battle with cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jay's People, 3428 Livingston Drive, Jefferson, MD 21755, or the Brunswick Aerie #1136, P.O. Box 26, Brunswick, MD 21716.
