James William Berry Reid

1924 - 2024

James William Berry Reid, 99, passed away at Well Spring Retirement Community on January 6, 2024.
He was born in Greensboro, NC on May 23, 1924 to the late Pricie Farish Reid and James William Berry Reid, Sr..
He graduated from Greensboro High School in 1941. From 1943-1946 Berry served as Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps as a Radar Navigator on a B-29. After being discharged from the Air Corps, he attended college at NC State University from 1946-1947 and graduated from The University of North Carolina in 1949 earning a degree in Business Commerce. He was inducted into the honor fraternities of Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma and was a member of the Beta Theta Pi social fraternity.
Berry married Fay Millican on March 7, 1953, where the two made Greensboro their home and were happily married for 70 years.
From 1957-1964 Berry worked for the securities firm RS Dickson as the Greensboro manager. In 1964 as an acting partner at JC Bradford and Company in Nashville, TN., Berry was responsible for bringing the JC Bradford branch to Greensboro. He continued to work at Bradford until 2001.
Berry was a long-time member of The First Presbyterian Church where he was a member of the Young Men's Bible Class as well as the Steve Millikan Black Society. Berry enjoyed many years as a member of the Greensboro Country Club and was fortunate to have played many golf courses across the world.
Berry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Virginia Reid Shelton. He is survived by his wife, Fay Millican Reid; daughters, Molly Millican Reid (Ronnie) of Greensboro, Evelyn "Farish" Reid Neil (Scott) of Raleigh; grandchildren, Devin Morrell Neil (Sara) and Elizabeth Reid Neil Allan (Gregory) of Charlotte, Kathryn "Katie" Farish Neil of Raleigh and a great grandson James Wilson Neil.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Virginia Summerville Sutton Theatre at Well-Spring Retirement Community at 1 pm on Friday, January 19 with a reception immediately following at The Special Occasions Room.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Well-Spring Retirement Community Employee Assistance Fund.
