James Bessey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home - Pinconning on Jun. 18, 2025.
James M. Bessey I, known affectionately to friends and family as Jim, passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2025, at McLaren-Bay in Bay City, Michigan. Born on March 24, 1967, in Standish, Michigan, to the late Donald and Jeanette (Steward) Bessey, Jim's life was marked by a warm sense of humor, a love for adventure, and an unwavering dedication to his loved ones.
Jim grew up in the close-knit community of Standish, where he attended Arenac Eastern High School. After graduation, he worked for several companies, demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to lend a hand wherever it was needed. His career was cut short due to disability, but Jim never let this challenge diminish his zest for life or his ability to make others smile.
An avid outdoorsman, Jim found solace and joy in the simplicity of nature. He was an enthusiastic fisherman and hunter, often sharing stories of his latest catch or the peacefulness of a morning spent in the woods. These moments, often spent with family and friends, were among his most cherished.
Jim's sense of humor was as infectious as it was endearing. He had a knack for lightening the mood and could elicit laughter from even the most stoic of companions. His adventurous spirit was matched only by his loving nature, as he was always ready to embark on a new journey or offer a helping hand.
Family was the cornerstone of Jim's life. He is survived by his twin daughters Joni and Joleen Kedron; his one and only son, James "Jimmy" Bessey II; and his siblings, Randal Bessey, Gary Bessey, Carol Bessey, Annette Wirgav, and Beverly Cousineau. His loving girlfriend, LeAnn Young, also survives him, sharing in the family's loss. Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Bessey, whose memory he held close to his heart.
Jim's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the courage to face life's challenges with a smile. He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his stories will continue to inspire and entertain for generations to come. As we bid farewell to James M. Bessey I, we take comfort in knowing that his adventurous spirit lives on in the memories he has left behind.
A Celebration of Life will be held later. Cremation has taken place, and services were entrusted to Lee-Ramsay Funeral Home
