James Birnberg Obituary
Renowned for his expertise in Trusts and Estates, for decades he spoke pro bono to legal groups needing to know the most recent legislative developments in the area. He had many wealthy clients but never hesitated to do work at no cost for those less fortunate. Patient, helpful, sincere.
Jim loved history, old maps, vintage cars, antiques, travel, good food, Beethoven, and Monty Python. Name a situation and he could recite the appropriate MP sketch verbatim. But more than anything, Jim loved his family: wife of 62 years, Judi (neé Stone); daughter, Joan Pincus (Mark Hadlock); son, Jonathan Birnberg (Kim Drouin); grandson, Joshua Pincus (Alexandra Mazur Pincus); granddaughter, Sarah Rae Pincus.
Much gratitude and love for his extraordinary caregivers: Junn Toring, Joseph Molina, and Kevin Amores.
No flowers, please. No service. Donations appreciated to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.

Even though our families were on opposite coasts of US, Jim loved to hear about Marcia and Seymour. He was always helpful to me handling estate and tax matters and was full of ideas. I will miss him. Gary Simon

As a fellow T&E lawyer, I adored Jim. Whenever I had a really obscure question or technical thought racing in my mind, I called Jim. He loved calls like that - he loved to think about geeky things and he loved to help others. He was always generous with his thoughts and time. And he was gracious and funny. I will miss him. Hello Judi,
I have fond memories of Jim at Boalt (Berkeley law). I know he was ill for quite a while. I saw him a couple of times at Plato.
