James A. Bishop, 72 of Marion died Sunday, November 23, 2025 at his daughter's residence with his family by his side.
James was born on June 9, 1953 in Hamilton, Ohio, the oldest of seven children of the late Fredrick H. and Matilda O'lydia (Valdez) Bishop. He attended Marion High School and served his country in the Navy. After the Navy he went to work for Norfolk & Southern Rail Road. He retired after 37 years as a foreman/supervisor.
James married Donna Evans on December 9, 1972. Donna survives.
James was a prickly teddy bear. He showed his love to family and friends by taking care of them with acts of service. He loved to pester, pull pranks, and push buttons all in fun of course. He loved racing, especially drag racing, having owned and raced four of his own cars. He also enjoyed watching all sports, with IU Basketball and the Indianapolis Colts being among his favorites. James was a Navy veteran.
James is survived by his wife Donna of Marion; children, Gary (Angela) Bishop, Spring Arbor, MI; Amy (Matthew) Durben, Marion, Iris (Paige) Brunner, Marion; grandchildren, Allison Durben, Fred Durben, Madelyn Bishop, Blaine Bishop, Garyn Bishop, Quinn Brunner and Leo Brunner; great grandchildren, Adalina and Aria; siblings Victor Bishop Gas City, Joseph (Linda) Bishop, Gas City, Jerry Bishop, NC, Aaron (Jayne) Bishop, Gas City, Valarie (Tom) Warnock, TX, Sherri Lapinski, NC; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a nephew, Jeramy Bishop.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Life Celebration Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana. A Life Celebration Service will be Friday December 12, 2025 at the Amvets Post #5, 705 W. 37th St., Marion, IN 46953 from 11:00 – 1:00 followed immediately with interment at Marion National Cemetery at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Grant County Rescue Mission, P.O. Box 63, Marion, IN 46952
