James Ray Bowen

James Ray Bowen, 88, formerly of Mooreland, OK, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2025 surrounded by his loving family.
James was born on January 12th, 1937, in Kismet, Kansas, the second son of Gerald and Lydia (Hilbig) Bowen. He attended Mooreland schools, playing baseball and football, graduating from Mooreland High School in 1956.
James married Coetta Harris on December 20, 1957, in Arnett, Oklahoma. This marriage resulted in 3 boys, 5 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
James worked in the natural gas industry most of his adult life, with many years at Cities Service and Williams, retiring from Williams in 1997.
James loved his family and especially loved spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and teaching them how to feed his "pet squirrels." He also loved golfing, fishing, camping and hunting with his boys. He was the President of the Hooker Booster Club and a member of the Board of Education at Straight Public Schools.
Remaining to cherish James's memory are his spouse, Coetta; children, Gary and Connie Bowen, Randy and Sharon Bowen, Mark and Dana Bowen; grandchildren and great grandchildren; Jennifer Bowen and Chace Haub, Amanda and Nick Kirn (Kayleigh and Ian), Keri and Jerod Johnston (Madison, Kendall, Sawyer), James and Hannah Bowen (Ezekiel and Lilly), Trey and Kelsey Bowen (Charlotte and Thomas).
Preceding James in death are two infant boys; great-grandson, Jace Michael Farrar; parents, Gerald and Lydia Bowen; and brother, Jerry Bowen.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 14, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at the Billings Funeral Home in Woodward. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 14, 2025 at the Mooreland Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Town of Mooreland Beautification Project with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
