James Bradner Obituary

James Wood Bradner, IV, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born on June 1, 1963, to James and Janet Bradner in El Paso, Texas. After graduating from Annapolis High School in 1981, Jim went on to earn a B.A. from Washington and Lee University where he spent many fond collegial hours with his brothers from Beta Theta Pi. While in college, Jim met the love of his life, Helen Louise "Lou" Pierce, and they married in 1988, going on to have two daughters, Pierce Bradner Sweet (Joe) and Caroline Goodwyn Bradner. After graduation, Jim helped his father get his small computer business off the ground in Annapolis, Maryland. Jim and Lou moved to Richmond, Va. in 1989 where he worked for CarMax. He went on to work as an IT Analyst for Bank of America for the last 23 years. Jim had a love for life and enjoyed travel and spending time with family and friends, especially on his excursions to the Outer Banks. He had a love for all sports and even followed his kids and nieces high school sports long after they graduated. He especially loved SEC football, (Georgia-Go Dawgs and Ole Miss-Hotty Toddy). Jim was universally loved as a kind and happy companion, quick to laugh and without a bad word to say about anyone. He had a talent for making any event or occasion memorable, ranging from raising a beer at a sports game, entertaining friends, or cooking holiday meals for loved ones. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Lou, his daughters Pierce (30) and Caroline (27), his father Ret. Lt. Col. James W. Bradner III, and his mother Janet Bradner. Jim was a beloved brother and is survived by his siblings, Rebecca Gray, Ben, and Chris Bradner. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church – 12291 River Rd., Richmond, Va. 23220 with a reception following at the Country Club of Virginia, Westhampton Clubhouse. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to the GBS/CIDP Foundation or the University of Virginia Cancer Center.
