James E. "Jim" Brickell

James E. "Jim" Brickell, age 87, passed away suddenly on November 17, 2025, near Creston, B.C., while traveling home from a visit to relatives. He died of complications from heart disease.

Jim was born on May 21, 1938, in Spokane, Washington, to Eric Rajewski and Audrey Brickell. He attended WSU-Pullman, UW-Seattle, and Virginia Tech-Blacksburg, VA, graduating as a Forest Mensurationist. His digital handle was "Ol' Forester." In retirement he pursued his passion for history, authoring a book about his ancestors, and he still lived at his ancestral family home in Summit Valley, west of Addy, WA.

Predeceased by his parents and his son, Walter, Jim is survived by his wife of 24 years, Loretta Hawson Brickell. Their marriage was a source of companionship, laughter, and unwavering mutual support. Jim and Loretta made a life full of simple pleasures-shared stories, scenic drives, and the comfort of knowing they had found in one another a true partner. He is also survived by countless beloved family members and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 o'clock on Friday, November 28, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Colville, WA. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Summit Valley Cemetery in Summit Valley, WA. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution to a charity of your choice in Jim's name.
