James Ellis Brown

Graveside services for James Ellis Brown, age 87, of Roanoke, will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 2, 2026, at Antioch Congregational Christian Church Cemetery with Danny McGouirk and Tony Dean officiating and Quattlebaum Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Brown passed away on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Bethany House in Auburn.

Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Carol Reed Brown of Roanoke; one daughter, Jean Smith (Bo) of Roanoke; two sons, James "Rusty" Brown and Jay Brown (Tina) of Salem, SC; seven grandchildren, Miriam Reynolds (Tyler), Taylor Logan (Jacob), Taylor Brown, Cassie Brown, Luke Brown, Mendell Newman (Allison), and Will Brown; nine great-grandchildren, Lily Reynolds, Hoke Reynolds, Tess Logan, Shep Logan, Aleksandr Newman, Anastasia Newman, Braxton Hughley, Carter Hughley and Awbriee Johnson; one sister, Carolyn Baugus of Meridian, MS.

Pallbearers will be Braxton Hughley, Taylor Brown, Luke Brown, Will Brown, Brian Brown, and Dennis Ison. Jesse Lee Lewis will serve as honorary pallbearer.

A Chambers County native, Mr. Brown was born January 13, 1939, the son of James Floyd Brown and Lillie Crowder Brown. He was a member of Antioch Congregational Christian Church and had retired from West Point Pepperell. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Clark Brown; brother-in-law, Ronnie Baugus.

Memorials may be floral or the family suggests contributions in his memory to the charity of one's choice.
