Jim and I knew each other and played tennis together for many years. His first wife, Joan, was in a "mothers" women´s group which "birthed" my wife´s group and that´s how we met. We shared many years both working in community development and housing but it was the many years of tennis which really brought us together. For many years I was the better player and so he called me "Pancho" for the old time tennis great, Pancho Gonzalez. In return I called him "Cisco" because the old tv Cisco Kid´s sidekick was Pancho. We stopped playing tennis together four years ago. By then Jim had caught up to me. When he was in Cambridge we lived walking distance and we got together weekly. I heard and felt his sadness as his second marriage seemed to fail. I heard and felt his pride and joy in all of his children. As his oldest, Chris, became a dad and a chef. As his next, Annie, became a wonderful, talented singer, married a great husband and had a lovely daughter. And as Hannah, his "peanut", grew into a talented academic and neuro-scientist and lovely person. Once he moved to Waltham we saw each other less, once or twice a year. I tried to reach him and found his phone numbers and e-mail not working. Today, I found his obituary online. I am shocked and sad. I will miss him. Rest in peace, my friend. Best, Jerry

I was so sad to hear of Jim`s passing! Having known him all through high school, and enjoyed his company at our reunions, this came as a shock. Just learned of it now many months after his passing. Sending my condolences to all of his family, with fond memories of Jim.

So sorry to hear of Jim´s death. He was a Gates-Chili class of 1964 classmate and I enjoyed seeing and talking with him at reunions. He was such a great guy! The world lost a very special person.

When I first met Jim, he & Holly had rented a delightful cabin over-looking Discovery Bay in Port Townsend Washington, & when we first laid eyes in each other it was with a sense of instant rapport with each other... the next day I took them to tour the boat yards downtown - jim was so impressed that such a tiny town would have SO MANY sailboats in the 2 marinas... also that Port Townsend has a major business in boat repairs & is the largest Wooden Boat building center of the whole West Coast... As a long-time sailor, he was flabbergasted, saying " But there´s nothing in Boston that even compares with this ! And so many Sailboats !!!" I took Jim & Holly to the gorgeous Maritime Center & to visit some of the world famous riggers who are family friends..... it gave me some great joy to see his reaction to what little old Port Townsend was so delightful to him...
