James Burnop Obituary

Published by Legacy on Nov. 5, 2024.
James "Jim" William Burnop was called to his heavenly home on November 3, 2024 at the age of 74. He was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandfather. Jim was always smiling, and he was kind and gentle to everyone around him.
Jim was born on July 12, 1950 in Tyler, Texas to Robert Millard Burnop and Shirley May Luebke Burnop. On May 9, 1970, Jim married the love of his life Kathleen Ann Sander. They settled in Georgetown, Texas in 1992. He is survived by his children, Scott Alan Burnop and wife Audrey Rae Benitz and Alison Elaine Jalufka and husband Brian Scott. He has three grandchildren, Caleb Henry Jalufka, Daniel James Jalufka, and Elliott Grace Jalufka, two brothers, Wayne Burnop and Tommy Burnop and wife Sandra, and his dog Lucy.
Jim was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served in the Air Force as a crew chief of a C-130 from 1969-1972. After being discharged from the Air Force, Jim attended Tyler Junior College and became a mechanical architect. He designed oil equipment, a water tower in Austin, and a dam on Ink's Lake. He also worked for Abbott Labs for 18 years. Jim worked hard and rose in the ranks to become head of maintenance of the entire building at Abbott Labs.
Jim enjoyed fishing, woodworking, watching westerns, and being with his family. He also mastered AutoCAD in order to design the house plans for their beautiful home in Georgetown. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, who lovingly call him Pops.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Kathleen Ann Burnop, his parents Robert Millard Burnop and Shirley May Luebke Burnop, his sister Sharon Lee Gilchrist, and his sister-in-law Nancy Jane Burnop.
Services will be at Mission Liberty Hill Lutheran Church on Saturday, November 9 at 2:00. Visitation will start at 1:00 before the service.
