II Timothy 4:6-8
I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but to all of them also that love His appearing".
James (Bobby) Campbell was born to the late Mr. James Roscoe Campbell and the late Mrs. Manthia Gerald Campbell along with his identical twin brother the late John (Bill) Campbell on March 18, 1937, in
Fairmont, North Carolina. He passed away at UNC Health Southeastern Hospital in Lumberton, North Carolina, on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, after a short illness at the golden age of eighty-eight years.
Bobby received his early education in the county school system, graduating from Proctorville High School. Bobby confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of the Spring Branch Baptist Church.
Being a sharecropper's son, after graduation Bobby aspired to do more than farm work and migrated to Wake Forest, North Carolina where his first place of employment was with Wake Forest University. The following summer he was in New Jersey on the boardwalk working at a famous restaurant and enjoying the ocean. Can you imagine from the Wire Grass Road in rural Robeson County to Ocean City New Jersey working at the John Cox Restaurant. He then went to New York to the lovely city of Jamacia to live with his sister Ruth. He advanced himself and worked at the Great World's Fair in New York City. He continued his career working with the New York Public School System as a Custodian Engineer. He worked there for more than 40 years until his retirement. He also was certified as a fireman for the Brooklyn School district and performed that job with pride.
During his tenure in New York City, he joined the Universal Temple Church of God in Christ where he was a lead singer with the men's group called the Revelators. He served on the deacon, trustee, and also the pastors Aide Board. While being a faithful church member he met his soul mate Annie Grace Miller. In June of 1990, they were united in holy matrimony. Their years together were filled with love. She loved to cook, and he enjoyed good food. They both returned to North Carolina and opened Campbell Hair Care Studio.
His later days were spent serving at Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church where he was deacon. Also, you could find him relaxing at the Beauty Salon giving complements, or at home reading his bible, watching television, stocking his wardrobe with fine things and relaxing.
Bobby was preceded in death by his twin brother John (Bill) Campbell, his parents Roscoe and Manthia Campbell, three sisters; Gertrude Campbell, Ruth Helen Campbell, and Gracey Taylor, four other brothers: Andrew, Landy Bruce, Hicks and Gwynn Campbell.
He leaves to cherish his devoted wife Annie Grace Campbell and two daughters Valerie (Larry) Williams and Rhonda Campbell. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paige (David) McCorkle, Madison, Sky, Maxwell, Isaiah and Elijah; great grandchildren; D. J., Dakota and Paityn McCorkle. His sisters Peggy Margaret Lesane, Evangeline Strickland (Roosevelt), Manthia Theon Thompson, Judy Lewis, Patricia Campbell, Veronica Bristow and Brenda Wallace; his devoted brother Francis Campbell, an adopted brother Cleveland Bethea. His sisters-in-laws Mary Lewis, Dorothy (George) Washington, and Margaret (James) Hough. And a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
