James John Caputo, 72, of Old Forge, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 6, 2025, leaving behind a legacy defined by music, resilience, and a voice that touched countless lives.
Born in Old Forge, Jim was the son of the late Vito J and Vera Scavo Caputo. A graduate of Bishop Hannon High School and Boston University, where he earned his degree in Media, Jim's professional journey was as multifaceted as his talents. He began his career as a radio announcer in Boston, where his distinct, resonant voice quickly became his signature.
Upon returning to Pennsylvania, he worked as a hairdresser in Pittston before following his entrepreneurial spirit to create Caputo Car Sales, a business through which he built an impressive empire of collectible automobiles. Later, Jim found great purpose in public service as a Lackawanna County 911 Supervisor/Dispatcher, a position he held with dedication for more than 20 years.
Music remained the thread woven through every chapter of Jim's life. He sang in several bands over the years, lent his unforgettable deep voice to countless performances, and became a beloved karaoke singer across many local venues during his retirement. His love for music was profound, central to his identity, and joy he shared freely with others. He would be found almost daily at the Pittston Donut Connection, sharing his knowledge of his faith and of his expert automotive abilities,
Jim was also a fighter. Fifteen years ago, he survived Stage IV throat cancer under the care of Dr. Christopher Peters, demonstrating the same determination and strength that defined his life. He had unrelenting faith in the Lord and would become a person from whom one could learn from his biblical ability to share while discussing his blessing of recovery from his illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. He is survived by numerous cousins and devoted caregivers, including Tina Dolgash, Jeff Mackie, and Butch Jones, who provided steadfast support and companionship.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Graziano Funeral Home, 700 S. Township Blvd., Pittston Twp., PA 18640. The morning will commence with a celebration of life service from the funeral home.
Interment will be private. Jim will be laid to rest in Old Forge Cemetery, where he will rest eternally with his parents.
Jim's voice, spirit, and love of life will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
