James F. Carmola

James F. Carmola, 78, Florence Avenue, died Saturday, January 24, 2026, in Oneida Health Hospital, shortly after his admission. Born in Oneida, on February 20, 1947, he was the son of Michael and Carmelina Carmola. Jim was a graduate of Oneida High School, Class of 1965, attended Canisius College and graduated from Utica College. He married Glenna Moran in St. Joseph's Church, on November 16, 1968. Jim served his country as a United States Army officer in Vietnam, attaining the rank of Captain. He was a 7th grade social studies teacher at Camden Middle School for 30 years, retiring in 2002. Jim loved spending time with his family and especially treasured his three granddaughters. He also enjoyed being outdoors, attending to his garden or assisting his neighbors with anything they needed. Jim was a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, a former trustee with St. Patrick's Cemetery Association, and a member of the Madison County Historical Society. Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Glenna; two daughters, Julie (Erik) Swenson of Cape Vincent, NY and Betsy (Eric) Atherton of Westminster, MD; his three granddaughters, Ali and Addie Swenson and Julia Atherton; his two brothers, Reverend Michael Carmola of Jamesville, NY and Joe (Lisa) of Lake George, NY; his sister, Mary Ann Van Der Jagt of Sackets Harbor, NY; his sisters-in-law, Mary Carmola of St. Albans, VT, Barbara Kinsella of Oneida, NY, and Linda Simchik of Penfield, NY; his brother-in-law, Bill Moran of Syracuse, NY; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Dr. John Carmola, and his brothers-in-law, Dr. James Kinsella and Greg Simchik. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Saturday, February 21, 2026, at Joseph's Church, where the funeral mass will be celebrated by his brother, Reverend Michael Carmola. Interment, with military honors, will be made at Saratoga National Cemetery in the spring of this year. Friends may call at the church 10am-12pm, Saturday, prior to the service.
