James Carr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Keefe Funeral Home - Cambridge on Dec. 15, 2025.
James Joseph Carr Jr., of Cambridge, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home on December 14, 2025, at the age of 82, following a lengthy battle with lung disease.

James was born on March 20, 1943, in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to James and Isabel Carr. He spent his early years in Massachusetts before moving to Queens, New York, where he attended Martin Van Buren High School. Following high school, he proudly served his country by joining the United States Marine Corps.

After completing his military service, James began a long and dedicated career at Pratt & Whitney, in East Hartford, Connecticut. Over the course of 42 years with the company, he became a respected and reliable presence. Upon retiring, he returned to Cambridge with his wife to enjoy the next chapter of his life.

James was a man of many interests and pastimes, and to those who knew him, he was also the smartest person in the room-curious, sharp, and endlessly knowledgeable. He found great joy in golfing and bowling and was an avid fan of NASCAR and the Boston Red Sox. A familiar figure around Porter Square, he could often be seen (or heard) walking his beloved Yorkies

through the neighborhood or sitting on his front porch swing, reading with them by his side. He also had a keen interest in the stock market and followed it closely throughout his life.

James is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Ann (Monahan) Carr; his daughter, Kimberly (Carr) Chesher; her husband, William D. Chesher, Major, U.S. Army (Ret.); and his beloved grandchildren, William Chesher Jr., Jillian Chesher, and Allison Chesher. He is also survived by his siblings, Diane Carr, Isabelle Delloiacono, Jean Hart, and Richard Carr, as well

as his cherished nieces, Danielle and Crystal Delloiacono. He was preceded in death by his parents, Isabel and James Carr.

Visiting hours will be held at Keefe Funeral Home, 2175 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, on Friday, December 19, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place at St. John's the Evangelist Church, 2254 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 9:30–10:30 a.m., with a reception to follow.

James's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace
