James Maurice Cheek, Sr. (Bingo) passed away unexpectedly on August 20, 2024 at the age of 69 years old. He was born September 27, 1954 in Baltimore, MD to James and Earlene Cheek. He had a successful career in business and sales and was a long-time employee of Select Comfort. He was a very proud member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated and a graduate of Bowie State University. He was also a member of Thomas L. Johnson Lodge #28 (NWPHGLDC). James was very charismatic, gregarious, diligent, intelligent, and confident. He has a kind and loving heart, and a love for life which drew in those around him. James was always eager to take on a leadership role in the many organizations in which he was involved
James is survived by Barbara Cheek, his loving and devoted wife of 29 years; his children Adora Browne, James Cheek Jr., Brandon Cheek; his grandchildren Derrick Barnes, Nathan Smith, Joshua Browne, Skyy Cheek, and Madolynn Cheek; Four siblings Patricia Cheek, Gregory W. Cheek, Sr., David Cheek (Lesha), Kellee Allen, brother-in-law James Robinson. Along with a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many loyal friends and extended family members. He is preceded in death by his loving and devoted parents James and Earlene Cheek, and his sister Valerie Johnson.
Services will be held at Beall Funeral Home 6512 Robert S Crain Highway (Rt 3) Bowie, MD 20715, on Tuesday August 27, 2024. Viewing 11 am – 1 pm, services immediately to follow at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association and Bowie State University Scholarship Fund.
