James "Chud" Chudzynski of La Porte, Indiana, passed suddenly on Nov. 19, 2025. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, known for his sharp sense of humor, generous heart and lifelong passion for automobiles. He never hesitated to lend a hand to anyone in need, and his kindness touched everyone who knew him.
A 1957 graduate of La Porte High School, Jim proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed in San Diego, California. From 1957 to 1963, he served as both an aircraft mechanic and a military policeman – roles he carried out with honor and dedication. After his military service, he spent most of his career at TP Orthodontics, working as a quality control supervisor.
Jim's love for cars was more than a pastime – it was part of his identity. He possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of automobiles and could share the story behind any vehicle with enthusiasm. He traveled across the country purchasing cars for a private collection, many of which are now proudly displayed in the La Porte County Historical Society Museum.
A gifted storyteller, Jim loved reminiscing about his childhood, his years in the Marines, and his many adventures throughout life. Some stories he told more than once, much to the amusement of his friends and family.
Jim also loved spirited conversations about politics and sports, and he treasured every moment spent with the people he loved. Whether talking cars, debating current events or watching a game, he believed these passions – and the connections they created – helped keep him going for as long as they did.
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Ray Chudzynski; his wife, Pat; his daughter, Victoria; and his brother, Ronald. He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia; and six cherished grandchildren.
Jim will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. No services are planned at this time.

Chud was one of the best friends, that I ever had. We loved going to the races together. Rest in peace, my friend
