I feel so blessed to have known Ed. I was one of two new professors to replace him after he retired. I attended a number of professional meetings with him over the years and he was a guest speaker a number of times in my classes and student organization meetings. I once tried to surprise him and Becky Joe at their home on Lake Keowee. A former professor from Georgia Tech who was a classmate of Ed during his graduate work at NC State was visiting my family. Unfortunately, on the way to Ed and Becky Joe's house, we ran out of gas. I once was driving a student to a South Carolina Section Institute of Transportation Engineers Annual Meeting. The student received the Stafford-Clark Scholarship (Ed is one of the namesakes) at that meeting. On the way back, guess what? Yep, ran out of gas. Ed had such a great attention to detail I bet he never ran out of gas. I look forward to many future Clemson transportation engineering students receiving the Stafford-Clark Scholarship or the James Edwin Clark Endowed Fellowship. What an incredible legacy.

Dear Becky Jo Clark,
Anne and I are saddened to learn of the passing of James Edwin Clark. We have great memories of the times our daughter, Irene, and Melissa were classmates beginning from Morrison Elementary through Daniel High. Our hearts go out to you, Melissa, and all your family. Adolph will remember Edwin as a great colleague and senior member of the Civil Engineering Department. He was a quiet and very generous man who served Clemson University in many capacities. He will be missed by all his colleagues and friends in Clemson University and Clemson. Adolph and Anne Beyerlein
