James Earl Clayton, Sr., 99, entered Eternal Life Wednesday, September 22, 2021.
Jim was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Jess Otis Clayton and Lydia Jane Clayton. He served his country with valor in the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater, where he would receive three bronze stars during his time as a Staff Sergeant. He was a long-time member of Ninth and O Baptist Church and longtime Mason.
He was preceded in death by his wife and mother to his children, Edith Clayton; son, James E Clayton, Jr.; his second wife, Mary Clayton, and her son, Steve Schafer; and his brothers, Robert and Richard.
Survivors include his children, John Clayton (Pamela), Sharon Clayton, and Michael Clayton (Pamela); grandchildren, Jennifer LaGrange (Christopher), Jonathan Clayton (Pamela), and Hope Pardieu (Ethan), Erin Clayton; step daughter-in-law, Dianne Schafer; sixteen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; brother, Bud Clayton; and sister, Mary Hampton.
Visitation will be 10:00-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 5, 2021, at Evergreen Cemetery.
