James Donald Clover, age 89 of Ionia, passed away November 20, 2025. He was born July 8, 1936, in Livingston County, Illinois, the son of Donald and Gladys (Lower) Clover.
Jim married Marilyn Greenhoe on July 31, 1959, in Ionia. Together, they raised two daughters, Jamie and Brenda. Jim's family and his community were the center of his life.
He graduated from Ionia High School in 1955, completed the MSU Dairy Short Course and served in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss in Texas for two years. In 1965, Jim and Marilyn purchased the farm on Bennett Road, where they raised crops, hay, and beef cattle. He established a carpet cleaning business in 1972, which he owned and operated for more than 25 years until his retirement.
Jim was an active member of Berlin Center Country Church, worked alongside neighbor Craig Denny on his vegetable farm and in the farm market, and stayed closely connected with his high school classmates. He loved being outdoors, working on machinery, and caring for his land and animals. Jim also loved people -- you could never go anywhere with him without running into someone he knew.
A gifted conversationalist, he genuinely enjoyed visiting with others, a strength he honed by completing a Dale Carnegie Course in effective speaking.
Surviving are his daughters Jamie Clover Adams (Lyle Adams) of Lansing and Brenda (Jerrad) Higgins of Saranac, his granddaughter Alexandra Adams (Cameron Miller) of Ionia, brother Duane (Gayle) Clover of Bronson and sister-in-law Betty Clover of Florida as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn, his brother Lyle Clover, his sister Lorraine Sygnecki and his parents.
Memorial Services for Jim will be at the Berlin Center Country Church, Saturday, November 29 at 11:00 am with Pastor Nancy Patera officiating. Visitation will be at the church from
