James P. (Jim/Rev) Conley passed away at his home on October 3, 2023 under the loving care of his family and Hospice of the North Country.
Jim was born on March 17, 1941 to the late Edmund J. Conley and Bernice M. (Demers) Conley.
He graduated from Plattsburgh High School in 1959 and received a B.S./M.S. Degree from SUNY Potsdam, Crane Dept. of Music. He retired as a music teacher from the Moriah Central School District. Jim was involved in music all of his life having served as a Director of Music for the Moriah Central School, Organist at St. Patrick's Church (Port Henry, NY), St. Peter's Church and St. Mary's of the Lake (Plattsburgh, NY), as well as being a substitute organist in the general Plattsburgh area.
"Rev" was the Founding Director of the Champlain Valley Choral and founding Dean of the Valcour Chapter American Guild of Organists. He was the Past "Up-State New York" District Governor AGO, member of the Council on the Arts in Clinton County, Past Trustee of the North Country Cultural Center for Arts, Founding Artistic Director of the Essex Organ Concert series, Past Vice-Chairperson Champlain Valley Council Retired Teachers, Past Organist and Newsletter Editor Elks Lodge #621, Past Newsletter Editor and Prelate Plattsburgh Moose Lodge #2390, Member Board of Director's Senior Citizens Council, and Board Member North Country Association Visually Impaired. He was Moose of the Month in September 2009. He was also an Adjunct Instructor at Clinton Community College and North Country Community College. He was a member of Edward & Moses Well VFW 125 Auxiliary, Moose Lodge and Elks Club.
Jim is survived by his sister, June Seymour and brother, Thomas Conley, of Plattsburgh. He is also survived by his nephews Christopher Seymour (Annette) of Ballston Spa, NY and Edmund (Buddy) Seymour (Karla) of Wayne, ME, as well as a niece Deanna Ward (Branden) of Sumter, SC, Kirstan Conley of Saratoga, NY, Mika Mannix (Dan) of Plattsburgh, NY, Tommy Conley (Morgan) of Wadhams, NY, Joseph Conley, Wilsboro, NY, Tony Conley (Kate) of Hood River OR, Terry Egglefield (Kent) of Elizabethtown, NY, Candy Goff (Rob), Kris Oxley (Daniel) Belton, SC along with numerous great nephews and nieces.
He was predeceased by his brother, Michael Conley, in 1967, his niece Korrina Duprey, great-niece Jenna Cripe and great-nephew Beckham Egglefield.
The family would like to thank Cindy Gilmet, Tina Allogio and his VFW friends for all their love and support.
Heidrick Funeral Home, 48 Court St., Plattsburgh, NY is in charge of funeral services.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial services will be private.
A Celebration of Life will be held at VFW Post 125, 116 Boynton Ave. in Plattsburgh on Saturday, October 21, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
