James McKinney Cooper Jr.

James was born on November 22, 1968, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Catherine Newell and James McKinney Cooper Sr. He spent his early years moving with his father, James, mother Catherine and sisters Kimberli and Valeri from Florida to Tennessee, then to Georgia, before returning to Florida, where he was raised in Lake Wales. James worked as a machine specialist and operator at Synergy Wood, a job he truly loved. His dedication and skill led to three promotions in a short period of time. He was a true jack of all trades-able to learn quickly, adapt easily, and excel at anything he set his mind to, even when the task was completely new to him.

In 2021, James found recovery through Project Hope / Teen Challenge. During his time in the program, he traveled from Crestview, Florida, to Texas, then to New York, before returning to Florida, where he spent the remainder of his life in Orlando. Throughout this journey, James grew deeply in his personal relationship with our Lord and Savior. He was a light wherever he went-encouraging others, offering help freely, and sharing openly about how Jesus saved his life and could do the same for anyone, regardless of their past.

James had a strong passion for weightlifting and fitness, along with a love for reading and learning. He was endlessly curious and set many goals in life-achieving every one of them and more. He also cherished fishing, and the many fishing and camping trips he shared with family and friends will remain treasured memories. James carried a remarkable tenacity that inspired those around him. He often said, "Just start." No matter how small the step, he believed in moving forward-one foot in front of the other. He once shared that one day you would look back, laugh at what once troubled you, and be amazed at how far you had come. James lived life fully, contributed positively, and embraced the present moment. He is not gone-just gone ahead.

James is survived by his children, Christopher Cooper, Brittney Cooper, and Anthony Cooper; his sisters, Valeri Rayborn and Kimberli Crosby; his grandchildren, Abigale, Lillian, Dallon, and Kyler; his nieces and nephews, Devin Beaudua and Cameron Apelquist; and his great-nieces and great-nephews, Annabelle, Charlie, Emma, Ellie, and Bruce.
