James R. "Jim" Crick, 95, of Kearney, passed away, November 8, 2025, at Brookstone Gardens in Kearney. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., November 14, 2025, at Kearney eFree Church. A livestream of the service can be viewed at

Jim was born on May 27, 1930, to Ted and Pearl (Axline) Crick, and raised on a farm north of Dorchester. The family moved to the Kearney area in 1936. He attended school in Kearney and graduated from Kearney High School in 1947. In March of 1948, he entered the United States Navy and served during the Korean War. He was discharged in April of 1952.
Upon his return, Jim married Elvera Guenther on May 18, 1952. They were blessed with two children, Jeffery of McCook and Janette Baker of Kearney. Jim began farming and built a successful family farm east of Kearney. He farmed until his retirement in 1992. Jim and Elly were active members of Firth Lutheran Church. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion and was a volunteer at the Trails and Rails Museum.
Jim's legacy will be defined by his honesty, integrity, and work ethic. His love for life, wit, and laugh will remain with us always.
Jim is survived by his son, Jeff (Beth), of McCook; daughter, Jan (Al) Baker, of Kearney; three granddaughters, Crystal (Scott) Hinrichs of Kearney, Jessica (Chad) Meyer of McCook, Alyssa (Tyler) Wyant of Kearney; two grandsons, Brandon (Bailey) Crick of McCook, Nate (Samantha) Crick of Omaha; six great grandchildren, Adyn and Adelyn Meyer, Avery and Leighton Hinrichs, Bowen Wyant, and Kamry Crick; also surviving him is his niece, Kathy George (Charlie), and sons, Brian (girls Aleena and Anny) and Kyle (Jessie) George (sons Landon and Jackson), all of Colorado.
Jim was preceded in death by Elly, his wife of 69 years, in 2022; his parents and three sisters; Myrna Marsteller, JoAnn Foged/Tomasek and Linda Payne.
