James Dancy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hiers-Baxley Funeral Services - Belleview on Jun. 1, 2024.
James Edward Dancy, 78, of Summerfield, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 2024, at HCA Florida Ocala Hospital. Born on August 27, 1945 in Trenton, New Jersey, he was the son of Oscar Dancy and Mary Mirenda. He moved from New Jersey to Florida, where he made his home for the majority of his later years in life.
Before retiring, James worked as a skilled contractor, a job that mirrored his strong work ethic and honed his attention to detail and craftsmanship. In his early years, he could often be found riding his cherished Harley Davidson motorcycle on the open roads. He had a deep passion for fishing, often finding peace on the water. His love for traveling was paralleled by his deep appreciation and admiration for Native American cultures, where he often spent time at reservations. He shared his life with his cherished wolves Cheyenne and Dakota. His creative spirit was evident in his knife-making, an art he pursued with precision and pride. He loved exploring flea markets, always in search of the next great find.
To his family, James was a figure of immense strength and invulnerability, described as being 10 feet tall and bulletproof. His passing is a profound loss, and he will be deeply missed by all those who loved him. His legacy of strength and resilience will be forever cherished, and he will be forever remembered as a remarkable man who lived life on his own terms.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Everett Dancy, his sister Linda Dancy Gaines, his daughter Caryn Visconti, and his stepdaughter Nicole Visconti.
James leaves behind a loving family, including his life partner Sheila Visconti, daughters Christine Moore-Dancy of Belvidere NJ and Kathleen Visconti of Tallahassee FL, brother Michael Dancy of Sparta TN, half-sister Louise Dancy Elledge of Wilkes NC, sister Mary Dancy Johnson of Wilmington NC, grandchildren Andrew Moore, Brittany Moore, and Brock Nedzweckas, and his nieces and nephews.
His wishes were for no funeral service.
A private celebration of life will take place at a later date.
