James Datko Obituary

James was born on December 29, 1926 and passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2015. James was a resident of Duluth, Minnesota at the time of his passing. He studied to become a priest with the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate at St. Henry's Preparatory High School in Belleville. He pursued further education at the University of MN Notre Dame Catholic University and earned a Doctorate in Philosophy at the Gregorian University in Rome. VISITATION: 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 21 including a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. in Holy Family Catholic Parish in Duluth. Visitation will continue in Holy Family Thursday beginning at 9 a.m. followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 11 a.m. Burial will be at St. Henry's Oblate Cemetery in Belleville Ill. at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate. Williams-Lobermeier-Boettcher Funeral Home is entrusted with final care.

I had the opportunity to take a couple of philosophy classes from Fr. Datko at Creighton in the late 70's. He was also kind enough to pose for a black and white photograph for a class I took there as well. I'd be glad to send if you are interested. Mike

My wife Barbara and I became good friends of Fr. Jim during his years at Creighton University. We have kept in touch in the years since he left Creighton. We will add him to our prayer list. Our condolences to his family.
