James Deatherage Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lakes Funeral Home on Dec. 9, 2025.
Rodney Deatherage, a lifelong resident of Rockcastle County, Kentucky, peacefully passed away surrounded by the comforting presence of his loved ones on December 7, 2025. Born on September 13, 1958, to James Edward Deatherage and Patricia Louise Johnson, Rodney's journey through life was one marked by devotion to family, dedication to his work, and an enjoyment of life's simpler pleasures.
Those who knew Rodney will remember a man who found joy in the game of playing Rook, the excitement and beauty of horse racing at Keeneland, and the thrill of basketball. His passions extended into his work as well, where he retired as the respected Manager of Physical Plant at Eastern Kentucky University.
Preceded in death by his beloved parents, his dear wife, Darlene Deatherage, his brother, Eddie Wayne (Sharon) Deatherage, and his granddaughter Lexi Kirby. He is survived by his son, Ricky Jud Kirby; his stepdaughter, Dianah V. King; his sister, Terry Rader, his step mother, Betty Deatherage, step sister, Tena Pigg, and several extended family members.
Funeral services will be at 1 pm, Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Lakes Funeral Home with Pastor John Doss officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday evening from 6-9 pm at Lakes Funeral Home.
