I has the pleasure of meeting Jimmy at a Star Trek convention in NY. As he was signing autographs he stood up and reached across the table to shake my hand, something I'll always remember. I shook the hand of a "Miracle Worker". He made the chief engineer one of the most important people on the Enterprise. Thanks for your service to Starfleet and in real life (WWll-Omaha Beach). Beam me up, Scotty!

"Yes, Scotty " That will always be who we will so fondly think of Mr. James Doohan as. A role he played so well that he actually became that character or person. He too made the show. And so , for each of his family members who saw him as either a beloved husband, father, brother , and so forth. May the peace of God be with you.

For James...he burly chief engineer of the Starship Enterprise in the original "Star Trek" TV series and movies who responded to the command "Beam me up, Scotty.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

I only became a Trekkie a little over a year ago, so I never got the priviledge to meet Jimmy (1920-2005) at a convention. But I've checked out his autobiography from the library and I know that he is in Heaven and that one day, I'll see him and Deforest Kelley (1920-1999).

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Someone once said: "People don't care how much you know, until they know how much you care." and I can truly say that I have been positively impacted by your life.
Through your acting you have convinced many scientists, engineers, programmers, and other technical people that science, engineering, programming, and technology is not evil, but good, and a life saver.
And I know that as long as there are television sets activated on this planet, your image will continue to inspire, challenge, and motivate those interested in technology.
And I thank you.

Larkin, I still have fond memories of spending time with you and your family back when we were childhood friends at Fulton Jr. High School. The slumber parties, and the delightful stories your father would tell. I remember how he changed the hands on the old clock on your mantle, just so I could hear the rich sound of the chimes, over and over again. He was a kind man, I am sorry to here of your loss. I wish you only happy memories of your father.

To the Doohan Family,
I've been a fan of James for years. He was the one person on Star Trek that made me happy to watch the show faithfully from inception to the end including the movies.
Well I guess GOD has "Beamed HIM UP" now to sit at his Golden Throne.
My sympathies[tho' a little late] go out to all your families. May God Bless You one & all.
You don't have to ever wonder if he brought joy & happiness to his fans because this is one fan who knows he did over & over many times.
I'll say good-bye for now with a prayer for all of you.****

You'll have to go on impulse power now, old friend, because the warp engines have had it, I guess. More power to the shields, you said, but there was no shield between you and your fans. Your phaser may have been on stun, but you were never stunned, except a little towards the end. You knew how to tip 'em back, and even when Spock told you his gas thing was painless, you took advantage and had a shot in the old west. In your picture it looks like you don't really know where you are, but that's OK, because we always know where to find you: past the first star to the right. Wait, that's Peter Pan. But you're our Peter Pan, forever young, except I understand you were missing a piece of your finger from D-Day. Well, "Monty," rest well, and don't worry about the dilithium crystals now, you've got all the power you need, except in the sense of not being alive.

I was missing my Dad (James Doohan) and thought I'd see what came up in my search engine - low and behold I found this wonderful Guest Book with such kind words and memories of my father! First I want to thank everyone who wrote for their entry. Second, I want all his fans to know that he truly loved them. His face would light up when he would tell us stories about the wonderful people he would meet at conventions, etc. He also has numerous gifts from the fans, which are cherished by his family now that he has passed. I would love to put them in a museum somewhere for all to see. I miss him terribly, as I know many do, but it is heartwarming to be able to read about how he touched so many lives. Thanks again, Deirdre

I met James Doohan twice at conventions and he was very entertaining and a genuine good guy!

I named my son Scott and dressed him up as a Star Trek Character when he was about 6 years old. Everyone would say to him " Beam me up Scottie" which was neat as they didn't know his name was Scott.
Anyway I was amazed at the amount of people who liked Star Trek and still do today.
I was a fan later in life as my husband is a " Trekkie ".
So from this home with Trekkies alike, it is with great sorrow that we say good-bye to a great man.
May his family find peace at this time and know that James ( Scottie ) will always have a place in our hearts.
We thank you James for many hours of laughter and interest in Outer Space.
You are a hero and a Scholar.
May you find peace in your Enterprise up in heaven.
God speed my friend....

I am from and in the UK and am 21 years old. When i was 12, i suffered some personal problems and left school. Because of this, i found myself without any friends my own age to play with or to develop my social skills.
James Doohan and indeed, the entire cast of all Star Trek shows helped me through this. They taught me most of my ideals and how to treat people with respect. However, when i do think back to when i first began to watch Star Trek, "Scotty" is the first one that comes to mind everytime in the scene where he bangs his head on the Enterprise bulkhead in Star Trek 5:the final frontier. I laughed hysterically then and always do now!
Mr.Doohan, you and your co-stars captured my mind and my heart and i will NEVER forget you!

Mr. James Doohan,
Consummate Actor and Person
I do not really know how to describe James "Scotty" Doohan and feeling for him and what he did where my life and in it are concerned except in the same method "Scotty" it is said never tired of and is owed alot for.
Rather than "Beam me up Scotty." I will say I will never forget and am thankful for the at home entertainment Mr. Doohan truly helped to provide and the complete feeling of anticipation, joy, agreement with everyone present in a darkened yet buzzing theater this is going to be great as we waited for him and cohorts on Star Trek film.
The anticipation, joy, agreement only got worse(better) as the work of this master unfolded.
He is to be thanked for doing so much with what many would have not even considered doing.
Ashes to space is I think a fitting and completing action.
God welcome you and rest you James Doohan.

"Where have all the good ones gone?"
On July the 20th 2005, (which coincidentally I believe was the 36 year anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission) I was reading about a Lost in Space episode called "The Keeper" and how it was a reunion of sorts between Jonathan (Evil Dr. Smith) Harris and Michael (Clatu, The Day the Earth Stood Still) Rennie. Sadly, as I was reading about Mr. Harris' Eulogy when my wife unexpectedly said to me that James (Montgomery Edward Scott) from Star Trek just passed away.
I said in disbelief, "Where have all the good ones gone?"
I watched Star Trek and Lost in Space for the first time when I was 12. I was in fact only about 1 month older than the real life Billy (Will Robinson) Mumy.
These shows and their characters such as Jimmy had a tremendous impact on this wide-eyed awe struck youth. In fact I decided to pursue the sciences as a career due to this inspiration…
Jimmy, you have changed many of lives for the better. Marriages, careers, perhaps even the direction of the Space Program have changed from your dedication and tremendous impact of your character. Both in real life and in your character you were a true hero. You will be sorely missed.
I'm sure where ever you are now, your shaking things up and who knows, you might even be able to change the laws of physics...
Sincerely,
Dr. Chase Simokat
