James Douglas (Dud) Morris was born on November 21, 1925, to Jim & Winnie Morris in the Lawhon Springs Community. He passed away peacefully on March 29, 2025, at the age of 99 with his three children by his side.
On October 5, 1946, upon his return from WWII, he married the love of his life, Melba (Jackson) and they had 69 years, 4 months & 9 days together. Dud & Melba were blessed with three children, Beverly, Joe & Jackie.
After serving in the Navy During WWII, Dud worked at many jobs over the years to support his family including the Texas Animal Health Commission where he retired in 1993 but his favorite was being a Rancher & Cattleman. One of Dud's greatest pleasures was working cattle with his family as well as with friends & neighbors. At one time he was known for having the best cowdogs around. He enjoyed his last horseback ride at the age 95!
Dud was preceded in death by his loving wife, Melba, his parents, Jim & Winnie Morris, his in-laws, John & Mandy Jackson, & his son-in-law, Kenny Freitag.
Dud is survived by his children - Beverly (David) Simmons, Joe (Sue) Morris & Jackie (Mickey) Dodd. Also his grandchildren - Philip (Karen) Morris, Douglas (Bethann) Freitag, Kayla (Chris) Koester, & Kadie (Darren) Zamora. Also his great-grandchildren - Lettie Morris, Landon, Kaden & Mason Freitag, Addy & Jackson Koester, & Kollyns Zamora. Also by his faithful little dog, Amos.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dud's honor can be made to The National WWII Museum in New Orleans, The Museum of the Pacific in Fredericksburg or the Lee County Veterans Memorial Park in Giddings.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Providence-Jones Family Funeral Home, 604 HWY 95 N, Elgin, Texas 78621.
Celebration of Life will begin at 2:00 PM on Wednesday April 2, 2025, at SPJST, 702 State Hwy 95, Elgin, Texas 78621.
Private graveside services will be held at Lawhon Springs Cemetery.
