Biography: James A. Egelston, Sr., 77, North Main Street, Munnsville, passed away Monday, February 27, 2023, in Oneida Healthcare, where he had been a medical patient for the past two days, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Oneida, on February 25, 1946, he was the son of Earl and Etta Hoffman Egelston. A lifelong resident of this area, Jim was a graduate of Oneida High School. He married Clarissa Harp in Sylvan Beach on June 23, 1972, celebrating over fifty years of marriage.
Prior to his retirement, in 1987 due to a disability, Jim was employed with the J. A. Firsching in Utica as a welder. His greatest love was working on cars with his sons, his weekly card games and fishing and camping.
Surviving besides his wife, Clarissa, are his three sons, James (Amanda) Egelston, Jr. of Munnsville, Scott (Miranda) Egelston of Oneida and Brett (Angela) Egelston of Eaton; his daughter, Tammy (Ryan) Carnes of Oneida; his children from his first wife, Rose; Robert, Tina, Earl Egelston and Leona Harp; his two brothers, Jack (Ginny) Egelston of North Carolina and Edmond (Glenda) Egelston of Oneida; a close and special sister-in-law, Patricia Egelston of Marion, Ohio; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who meant the world to him. He was predeceased by his parents; his six brothers, Ward, Earl, Albert, Lenard, Glenn and Roger; his sister, Jean and his special dog of nineteen years, Carmello.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Oneida Health, Dr. Robert Burdick of Sherrill and Dr. Jenny Meyers of Syracuse for the provided care.
A private celebration of life will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
