James Eichelberger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Seymour Funeral Home and Cremation Service - Goldsboro on Dec. 29, 2025.
Goldsboro-James Lawrence "Jim" Eichelberger, 90, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025 at Brookdale Country Day Road, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Bedford County, Pennsylvania on August 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Gregory Lawrence and Edna Irene Young Eichelberger.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul Eichelberger and John Eichelberger.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Myrtle Eichelberger; children, Judy Parker (Dave) and Jim Eichelberger, Jr; grandchildren, Joshua Parker (Jenny), Lukas Eichelberger (Missy), and Matthew Parker; and great-granddaughter, Maggie Eichelberger.
Jim retired from U.S. Steel after many years of dedicated service as a maintenance supervisor. Known for his strong work ethic and problem-solving skills, he was truly a jack of all trades-someone others could always count on to get the job done.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, an experience that shaped his deep sense of duty and patriotism throughout his life.
Jim was a longtime and faithful member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. He was also deeply involved in the Masonic tradition, serving as Past Master of his lodge and as a Shriner. In addition, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a Lifetime Member of the American Legion, maintaining strong ties to his fellow veterans.
In his spare time, Jim enjoyed golfing, telling stories, and spending time with his family-moments he cherished most. His stories, wisdom, and steady presence will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
A private committal service with military honors will be held at the Eastern Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
