i remember good times when the brothers got together-at the cottage and in Richmond and a very good time at the ei-eunion-now in my thoughts and prayers-an ideal brother-in-law.

The last fond memory of Uncle Jim is his 80th birthday celebration. He was a most gracious guest of honor. As he opened gifts, he took the time to look at each one carefully and thank the giver. That’s how he always was, making you feel so special when really he was the special one. I will miss him greatly. My deepest sympathies to Aunt Dottie and my cousins.

I remember Uncle Jim as a quintessential Southern gentleman. I treasured most his graciousness and his winning sense of humor, qualities I greatly admired. He was always interested in our lives, and we were always pleased when he would call or drop us a line - often recalling memories from his youth with my father. He is in our thoughts and our prayers.

My Uncle Jim was one of a kind. I grew up loving his Jimmy Stewart persona, his easygoing ways and dedication to his family and work. Early memories center on Conesus Lake in upstate Geneseo, N.Y., where he grew up with my father and grandparents. Later, when I went to school at Vanderbilt, I treasured my visits to Richmond on my trips between Long Island and Nashville. He even got involved in helping me get a summer internship at his old newspaper, The Times-Dispatch (I always wanted to believe I did it on my own, but I always knew he pitched in). He always took a great interest in whatever I was doing, asking questions and offering memories of his time in journalism and the law. Most of what I loved about him, though, was how much he loved his family and how much delight he took in his wife, my Aunt Dottie, and his own kids and their families and accomplishments. He lived fully to the end, playing tennis and tutoring kids and sharing great meals with the people he loved. He kept an open mind, eager to learn what he didn't know and to make a difference every day. What a wonderful life; what a great gift to us all. Rest in peace, Uncle Jim. We will love you and hold you in our hearts always.

I have fond memories of Prof. Eichner at T.C. Williams. He had a great sense of humor, including his self-deprecation. God bless you, Prof. !
