James Funk Sr. Obituary

James Edward Funk Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 80 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

Born on June 22, 1944, in Louisville, Kentucky, Jimmy was the cherished son of the late Thomas and Dorothy (Brown) Funk. He was greeted in heaven by his siblings, Patricia Tomes, Thomas V. Funk Jr., Doris Newton, and Darnella Whitaker, who preceded him in death.

Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will forever be cherished by his loving wife of 43 years, Bonnie Funk. He is survived by his sons, James E. (C.C.) Funk Jr., Thomas W. Funk, Christopher A. Funk, and Nicholas N. (Taylor) Funk, and his beloved grandchildren, Shelby A. Funk, Hunter N. (Emma) Funk, and Jasmine E. Funk. In addition to his immediate family, he will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends whose lives he touched.

A proud veteran, Jimmy faithfully served our country in the United States Air Force. His distinguished career included notable positions as a Jefferson County Deputy Sheriff and a Master Electrician. An esteemed member of the Masonic community, he was a Past Master of the Preston Masonic Lodge #281 and a 32nd Degree member of the Scottish Rite. Despite his many achievements, his greatest pride was always centered around his family, which he loved unconditionally. Jimmy found joy in spending time with his loved ones and often delighted in playing cards during his free time.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 6th, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A Funeral Service to honor his memory will take place at 12:30 PM on Wednesday, May 7th, at the funeral home, followed by burial at Resthaven Memorial Park.

The family kindly requests that contributions in Jimmy's memory be made to Kosair Children’s Hospital.
